Let your inner child out to play.
What did you love to do as a child? Can you bring some of that back to your days now?

I did a new thing last year! Rebounding has come back into fashion. Or maybe it never went out but I had moved on to other endeavors over the years. We had a rebounder or mini trampoline* as we called it back in the day, in my college apartment. It got a ton of use, especially during finals when we all needed to blow off a little energy. My three roommates and I would all be crammed around the table studying and every so often one of us would get up and walk over the trampoline, jump for a few minutes, arms flailing and heart pounding. We would then hop off and come back to the business at hand in the dining room. It was a great stress relief and was apparently quite well made even back then as numerous inebriated evenings involved dancing on it to Billy Joel or Meatloaf.
Well, 30 years later I decided to hop back on. I’d been feeling stagnant in my workouts after two years of training for the marathon. I love running and will never stop but my head and my legs needed a break so I’d been switching it up. I still do my run class on Fridays but I’d gone back to some spinning, lots of walks in Central Park, and lifting. I’m still loving it and feel like my head is in a better place than it has been in a while. I saw this studio in Tribeca on Instagram and thought why not? Let’s try something new!
Y’all it was no joke! I took the beginner essentials class and it still kicked my butt. My thighs and calves were screaming. My arms were asking what the heck they were supposed to do to help. My legs don’t move that fast when there is not a solid surface to push back against. It was hard and so, so fun! Most of my body cried a little when I got out of bed the next morning. But I can’t wait to go back. I’m motivated to get better at it. It’s fun and challenging. Can I encourage you to try something new that pushes you out of your comfort zone this week? Or pick up an old hobby you used to love as a kid. A couple on my list are hula hooping, Barbies * (the Barbie house my parents built me was EPIC), and roller skating*. You never know what you might discover about yourself. Feel free to share what you find!
