Let’s Talk Self-Care
When it feels like the world is too heavy and dark, you need to take time to care for your soul and yourself.
Who’s in need of a little self-care right now? One thing I have found about getting older is that life can seem exceedingly unsettling as the years tick by. You see more and more bad things happen worldwide or even just in your small circle and it can start to take its toll on your naivety and your sense of hope. I have found times when I am not as guileless and more cynical about the world around me. It’s not how I want to live my life so I make sure to remind myself of all the good that’s happening simultaneously and step away from the barrage of negative when I need to. I think that is when self-care is of the utmost importance. While it may look different for everyone, we all need it. Here’s some of what it looks like for me.
SELF CARE
S-Sleep….do yourself a favor and make sleep a priority.
E-Exercise….you will never regret moving your body every day. Stretch, walk, run, bike, do yoga, whatever movement makes you happy...just do it.
L-Look for the good in every day. Sometimes you will find it and sometimes you may not. But you definitely won’t if you don’t try.
F-Focus on yourself. What do you want, what do you need, what sets your heart on fire? Don’t know? Take time to find out.
C-Communicate…share your feelings..all of them….with your partner, friends, family. It doesn’t serve you to keep anything bottled up.
A-Ask for help. Stop trying to do it all, be it all, take care of it all. It’s not your job.
R-Relax in a hot bath, with salts and tranquility to detox your system, candles, and your favorite music.
E-Eat. Make healthy food choices more often than not. Not sure what’s healthy then educate yourself about nutrition.
Self-care is not all baths and face masks, although those are delightful, sometimes self-care is taking a break from social media, your partner, your job, your kids, or your “shoulds”. I know this is a simple list and it’s not meant to solve all of the problems in a day but sometimes even a little break to breathe and feel the sunshine on your face can make a world of difference in your mental fortitude.
