Even though I am on a hiatus right now, I still consider myself a runner. I also consider myself a pretty low-maintenance runner. With an energetic playlist, good shoes and some interesting scenery, I am pretty content. But I do love metrics, so my Apple watch and a tracking app like Nike Run are also my steady companions. Here are some of my go-to’s for a quick run around Central Park.
-Apple Watch*-My favorite tracking app is the Nike Run Club but I know a lot of people use Strava as well.
-Asics Gel Contend*-My best advice for picking a running shoe is to head to your local running store, like Road Runner Sports or Jack Rabbit, and have them do an assessment. The employees are usually runners themselves and are excellent at helping you find the right fit for you whether you under or over-pronate. I’m a neutral runner with a high arch and Asics have always been a great shoe for me.
-Flip Belt*-I cannot stand to have things flopping all over me when I run so for the longest time I did not take hydration with me. When I started training for longer races, I had to figure out something that would work and this belt was a winner. It doesn’t hold excessive amounts, but I really liked it.
-A good sports bra*-Keep the girls tucked in tight! Nike has been my go-to for supportive and comfortable sports bras.
-Socks*-I’ve been a fan of these Road Runner ultra thin socks for years, They stay put, wick away moisture and keep my feet happy for miles at a time.
These are just my basics. Seasonal running requires different tools depending on the weather and terrain. Summer running requires a hat*, sunscreen, and more hydration. Winter running requires layers and sometimes Yaktraks*. I will share more when the season changes. In the meantime, share your favorite tool to make running more enjoyable for you.
