Hot Flash Remedies
Here are some things I’ve found helpful. A list I will be adding to as I find new tools.

-I already carry a little spritzer bottle in my purse in summer to use when it’s really warm. I love rose water but you could try other essential oils that have cooling properties. I always love the cold compress towels that my gym has on hand and I know they use a eucalyptus blend so that’s an idea. Other cooling oils include peppermint, spearmint, and lavender, just be sure to use quality oils without any toxic ingredients that are endocrine disruptors. We don’t need to add more work to our already-taxed systems.
-Fans, fans and more fans. Again I live in a warm climate and already employ decorative hand fans on swampy subway platforms. The more airflow the better. I have a mini fan that fits in my tiniest of cross body bags. I have a beautiful handmade African folding fan I got from two fantastic women in Park City. It’s colorful and sturdy and packs a hefty breeze. You can find similar ones here.* You could even get one of those little portable electric fans that have misters on them, usually spotted at day games at baseball stadiums around the country. You will never see me with one of those, that hang around your neck but you do you.
-I’ve always been a fan of supplements but I highly recommend getting your hormones tested to see what is actually going on in YOUR body before you start adding a bunch of stuff. For me, I’ve found a delicious plant based herbal/adaptogen blend that seems so helpful in supporting healthy hormone levels. It’s called Harmony by Organifi and it’s like a warm hug in a cup. It has a rich chocolatey taste but with no sugars, so if you have a sweet tooth it checks that box without the havoc sugar can wreak on your body. I blend it with almond milk for a creamy nighttime treat or throw a scoop in my smoothie in the morning.
-Another product I tried is the Embr Wave.* We were on a shoot and the Digital Tech had it on. He also had on Vibram shoes so I knew he was into some bio-hacking and alternative protocols. I asked him what it was and he shared it was a wearable cooling device. We were in Florida so it made perfect sense. He shared that he thought it was actually developed to help with hot flashes in menopause but he loves it for hot days on set. He let me wear it for part of the day and it was fascinating to feel it work. While I wasn’t having hot flashes per se, the reviews I’ve read online seem to be pretty positive. It doesn’t prevent a hot flash, it does seem to help relieve them quickly and make them more manageable.
-I also have a cooling pillow that I got from Leesa. I think I had it on the wrong side the nights that I was having night sweats but when I turned it over it did feel cooler. It didn’t necessarily stop it but it did feel refreshing to have the cooling gel against my neck. There are also mattress pads you can get with temperature regulating features. My best advice is just stripping down to your birthday suit. You cool off, your partner heats up. It’s really a win-win all around.
