I’ve recently been introduced thanks to social media and my bonus daughter to the “everything shower”. This is not your typical quick rinse-and-go. An Everything Shower is a full-body self-care session—cleansing, exfoliating, shaving, deep conditioning, moisturizing—designed to leave you feeling refreshed, glowing, and completely renewed. To be fair, most of my showers include dry brushing, hair washing, shaving, and facial care. I’m very efficient. I apply shampoo, shave a leg, rinse, apply conditioner, shave a leg, rinse. I don’t know why that seems to be such an ordeal to some but ok. I do however understand the concept of Slow Care, which I think is the point of the Everything Shower.

So what is it you ask? An everything shower is an extended, all-inclusive bathing ritual that takes care of your hair, skin, and body in one indulgent session. Think of it as a spa day in your own bathroom. Unlike a regular shower, which might be a hurried or efficient if you ask me, 5-10 minute routine, an everything shower can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on how many steps you include.

Clearly, you will want to prep and set the mood. Before stepping in, gather all your products—shampoo, conditioner, body scrub, razor, face mask, and anything else you’ll need. Light a candle, play your favorite playlist, and set the vibe for relaxation. Even better if you have dimmer switches in your bathroom to really make it feel like a spa.

Start with a deep cleanse using a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup. Follow up with a nourishing deep conditioner or hair mask. You can let it sit while you move on to the rest of your routine.

Now to take care of your skin suit. Use a body scrub or exfoliating mitt* to slough off dead skin. If you shave, exfoliating beforehand helps prevent ingrown hairs. Apply a rich shaving cream or oil for a smooth, irritation-free finish. I love a good mask so I would put that on while I shave so I have time to let it do its magic. The steam from the shower helps it penetrate.

Time to rinse it all off. Rinse out your conditioner and finish with a blast of cool water to seal the hair cuticle and boost circulation. After stepping out, lock in moisture with a body lotion or oil. These are a few of my favorites.

-Rodan+Fields Active Hydration Body Replenish

-Naturium Glow Getter Body Oil

-Jazeena Body Serum Candle (my favorite is Figue)

It’s nice to take time to slow down and prioritize really taking care of our bodies. Life can get so hectic and our dry skin can be the last thing on our mind. Beyond good hygiene, an everything shower gives you a chance to reset, refresh, and make yourself a priority. What would you add to the list?
