Let’s Talk Summer Break

We all need a little break on occasion to refill our cup.

Clearly I needed a break from my consistency challenge this summer. While I had prided myself on diligently creating content for over a year, I think I hit a wall right as summer started. Summer is a time of fun and lack of schedule and carefree days and it seems I embraced it with enthusiasm this year. I do believe sometimes we need a break. Burnout is very real and if you are constantly producing or working without taking time to refill your cup, you eventually run out of things to say. In a podcast by Mel Robbins I listened to today she talked about how we can get so caught up in output that we forget we need input as well. And she’s right, we have to take time to sit and listen to others, read a book, learn something new, go someplace we’ve never been. All of those things will help you grow and give you new things to talk about and to share with others.

So I’ve taken most of the summer for input. I have read numerous books, spent time with family, celebrated the weddings and birthdays of some of my favorite people, listened to a myriad of podcasts, taken a girls trips with old friends and spent movie nights in our beloved Bryant Park but with new friends. There was a polo match in Greenwich, art night at the Guggenheim, date night at the Museum of the City of New York, and our Summer 24 pièce de ré·sis·tance, an eight day trip to Sicily. Talk about input, I came home with a couple extra pounds from all the amazing input. Travel is one of my favorite ways to smash stagnation, soaking up new cultures and history, consuming new cuisines and drinking in stunning scenery.

And just like the back to school excitement that rolls around in September just as you’re getting bored from lack of structure and schedule, I feel refreshed and ready to start this new fall season with enthusiasm for sharing again. Some lessons I’ve learned, some cool things I’ve seen, some hacks I think might be helpful, you know, the things I hope you’ve come to expect here at In-Chelle-Igence. While I will not be recommending any thing Pumpkin Spice, I’ll do my best to bring you more content that educates, inspires or at least entertains. Happy Fall y’all.
