Good sleep hygiene is going to be a frequent topic here on In-Chelle-igence. Because restorative sleep is so important to healthy aging, the more I learn, the more I am going to share with you. Tips, tricks, recipes, products, resources, and more. The why’s and how’s of quality sleep. Just like Scott goes down rabbit holes about cooking techniques and cycling, I go down rabbit holes of health science.

I have been regularly imbibing a sleepy girl mocktail before bed because it is delicious, but I haven’t noticed a marked improvement in my sleep due to its magnesium* and cherry juice.* It is a much better choice than a vodka soda or glass of wine, as I have discovered how alcohol can wreak havoc on sleep. My heart rate stays high longer through the night, and my HRV drops to almost nothing, signaling my nervous system is in distress.

Another tool I have incorporated recently is earplugs. I didn’t want any kind of EMF cooking my brain all night, so Bluetooth earbuds with white noise were off the table. I was going to buy the standard foam cone*, but I’ve never had good luck with those staying in my ears. While searching on Amazon, I found a brand called Loop* that looked like it might be worth a try. Reasonably priced, with good reviews, a range of ear tip sizes for a comfortable fit, and they came in cute colors. Bonus! So far, so good. I can wear them all night without any discomfort, and they screen out most of Scott’s snoring.
